Innovation UnConferences – 2018 Summary

  • In May, we inaugurated the series with a compelling set of dialogs on Innovation Capitalization & Metrics in Corporate Innovation and the impact of metrics on getting to the outcomes we are seeking. We also heard a compelling story about the challenges of being an Intrapreneur.
  • In September, we launched our Unconference model and 5 teams including your peers worked on challenges in the topics of 1) Innovation in Society, 2) Mobility as a Platform in Innovation, 3) Capital Formation and Sustainment in Innovation, 4) Ideation models that work, and 5) Innovation Participation Challenges & Solution Proposals
  • In December, continuing in our thematic goal of high engagement, getting to know one another, sharing experiences and finding solutions to innovation challenges, we heard about the challenge of diversity in the world of work, and we had 4 tables concentrating on 1) continued dialog regarding Innovation in Society, 2) inclusion of underserved communities in innovation finance, 3) Story telling as an Innovation Communication Model and 4) execution models in innovation to get the outcomes we are seeking
  • As a special topic in our December event, we had the pleasure of hearing from William Kamkwamba, from Malawi, who is a born inventor. At the age of 14, he became notorious for building an electricity-producing windmill from spare parts and scrap, working from rough plans he found in a library book called Using Energy and modifying them to fit his needs. It was a seminal moment in our series and the source of great inspiration about what is truly possible with some drive and motivation. You can read more about William here: https://www.ted.com/speakers/william_kamkwamba.

Now, for our 4th Unconference we have some exciting things to announce – and your participation is critical to creating the best possible experience! We have secured the time of Po On Yeung, Associate Director of Business and Innovation Development to discuss the impact of space on innovation and it’s impact on collisions and intersections leading to new disruptive ideas. She will be participating with us in a fireside chat regarding innovation space inside corporations vs. in accelerators, co-working spaces and more.
